I’d like you to meet Ely! He’s 5 years old and weighs 12 pounds - a perfect size for active families who want to get out and see the sights! He’s brand new in rescue. Ely was with his owners his whole life, all 5 years where he was loved and happy. But his family worked long hours and Ely was alone all day. No one to snuggle with, play with or take him for walks. Ely was becoming more and more bored, unhappy and lonely. Yes, we all know how the next chapter in this book reads…

Ely's smart! He learns quickly and oh - he wants to please! He knows how to sit! yeah boy! Show him what you want him to do and he'll do it. Pay attention to him and he falls in love. Take him out for walks and he's in heaven. Ely enjoys his breakfast and dinner; not a picky eater; his favorite room in the house?...the kitchen, of course!

He LOVES to go for rides in the car. It brings him the most joy in life, next to mealtime. He likes to watch everything out the window and is over the moon if you can roll the window down to take in all the fresh air.

His happy place would be a quieter home, without a lot of comings and goings. A nice place with a window to look out at the world, with people who know dogs, who are active themselves and happy to take him on long walks. Oh, and no gentle little kisses from him, no siree! Just lean in and you’re going to get one big “SMOOCH”.

His potty habits are excellent, has no problem going outside in the wet grass or rain, no accidents in his foster home. He enjoys being outside and would love a new home where the yard is fenced and there’s no leash, no attachments just free to roam and sniff and enjoy the sunshine.

He bonds quickly and we are looking for a family where someone is not gone long hours and will be home with him most of the time. A brother or sister would be icing on the cake.

Looking for a buddy to share long summer walks? SMOOCH included! Ask for Ely!

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
