Milly is available for adoption.

She is 4 years old and weighs 7 pounds.

Her adoption fee is $600.00.

Meet Miss Milly! A sweet southern girl with a sweet southern name to match! She was found wandering around the city of Hopewell, VA and hence she adopted the name as her own but she prefers Miss Milly.

Miss Milly is a charming little girl. She is approximately 4 years old, weighs 7.5 pounds and has the softest little floppy ears around.  Miss Milly has had a rough start here in VA.  She was a stray and subsequently picked up by animal control in town.  They took her to the shelter and hoped someone would call and ask about her but no one ever did sadly!  She was going to have to just wait and see. She was found with a sweater and collar so her hold time in the scary kennel was even longer-10 whole days!!  During that time some sweet high school children volunteered walking dogs and interacting with all the shelter dogs hoping to keep them happy during their stay.  They played with Miss Milly who then didn’t have a name. The children loved her sweet disposition and she loved them too!!  There were so many dogs the shelter was almost full but there was room for Miss Milly to wait it out.

Fortunately, Miss Milly was one of the lucky ones.  One of the children volunteering was a foster family with a YORKIE rescue!! It was beyond believable!! The foster family made contact with Animal Services and the rest is is history or a new beginning for her as they like to say!

Miss Milly is a very active, friendly, little girl with a big appetite! She loves meal times and tries to sneak a bite or two extra from her foster siblings. Sje can hear a treat bag rattle from upstairs!

She is okay with other dogs so far and does not get upset when they are close on walks or at the vet. She loves squeaky toys, small balls and to give little puppy kisses!! Most of all she loves treat time. She will dance a happy little cha cha when she knows they are coming. Treats were scarce at the shelter.

Overall she is a very well adjusted little girl. She is happy to have a safe, warm and calm place to lay her head at night. She sleeps all night in her little bed right beside Foster Mom and Dad’s bed and wakes up happy and ready for her 2 mile morning walk and breakfast. She will have surgery to spay her on October 31st. Once she recovers and gets a clean bill of health she will be ready to fill your home with love.

Please think about the following when you apply:

She does not like to be left alone and eagerly awaits your return with kisses and a happy dance. She loves her walks and will need someone to walk her at least twice a day. She really likes riding in the car too. She sits right in the middle seat beside Foster Mom and happily watches out the window as they drive along.

While she is new she has really made herself at home with her foster siblings and is finding her order in the pack. She is friendly with them but is already jealous of attention Foster Mom gives to the other dogs in the pack. She will be fine as an only dog but will be tolerant of another small dog. She does run and play with her foster siblings.

Please understand that she will not be ready until after She heals from her surgery but it’s good to get involved and go through the application process now so when she IS ready you will be too!

Milly is staying with Sharon and her family in Hopewell, VA.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
