Brooksey is ready to go! She is all healed, happy, active - really REALLY active and ready to rock and roll. She needs a nice family - no children please - she is too small - but someone who has time for a puppy, who will play fetch, and hike and run and move. She is not for the couch potato set.

Brooksey! Sweet very active puppy! She will pester your other dogs to play until they just can't take it - so maybe she should be your only dog.

She is fully recovered from all the surgery and she wants to PLAY PLAY PLAY! Try to keep up with this ball of fire.

She is a baby. She needs lots of training and attention.

Her story:

The call came on Monday, a holiday. "This tiny baby Yorkie won't use her right rear leg. We don't know what the problem is. Can you help?"

Of course we want to help. We jumped in the car and picked her up. She was so breath takingly lovely and easy, good, sweet. She gave wet nose kisses while I held her in my arms on the long ride to the surgeon. In the heated warmth of the car, she melted into my shoulder as she fell asleep with a sigh.

The surgeon asked for clearer x-rays and shook his head - "Broken! Badly - we need surgery. See the head of the femur - broken off. She is in pain." My heart sank as he spoke knowing this was going to be very expensive. "And, he said, "Look at this - the other leg has a luxating patella and it too will need surgery. In another six weeks, we'll have to repair that leg too."  So on top of these surgeries, she also needs to be spayed and have baby teeth pulled. Whew!

So much pain for one little girl who had to be weighed in a new born baby scale because she is so small.

Please, if you can, give what you can. We are looking at thousands of dollars in vet bills. But no little dog could be more worth it.

UPDATE:  Brooksey's surgery was a complete and utter success! She will be running like a deer in a few weeks. There has been some pain and we have helped her with pain meds. She is eager to get out and play. But the surgeon says to wait awhile longer.  In four more weeks, she will have surgery on her other leg.  It will soon be Spring and she will be running on all fours.  Thank you for your donations. They mean so much to us.

Brooksey is fostering in New Britain, PA with Nicole. Get your running shoes on if you are applying for Brooksey.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
