Hi Everyone, my name is CheB, and I would like to share my story with you...

I am a sweet, beautiful yorkie boy who was dropped off at the shelter by my own family who had me for 16 years.  I was at a shelter in Maryland, from June 6th, until the beginning of July.  One of the volunteers from Save A Yorkie Rescue received a call from another senior rescue group that was full to capacity.  They asked SAY Rescue if they could help me and the President of the group (my hero) said of course they will help me without any hesitation at all!  Their Foster Coordinator called the shelter and said they would take me but were told that I had an adoption application pending on me…so I did not need to be pulled.  Weeks passed by and many people passed my cage…I would hear them talking…oh how cute and handsome and tiny he is but after reading the info on my cage they would continue walking.  After they saw that I was 16 years old they no longer thought I was adoptable.  Who would want a little old man who can’t see and can’t hear too good because of cataracts and his age.   My best days have passed me by.   I had given up hope long ago after spending so many days in that little cage.  What is the use?  Some people considered me and then said no.  So I was still at the shelter and losing all hope very quickly.   This is where my story gets better…

The volunteers at SAY Rescue saw that I was still at the shelter and called them again and said they would take me.  The adoption application at the shelter had fallen through. SAY Rescue found me a foster home and wonderful volunteers who would help to transport me to my foster home.

 And a few days later my new journey began...

Hey, it's July 4^th and that is Independence Day and indeed it was for me!  At eight o’clock in the morning I heard some noise, it was people entering the shelter.  It was a little early for me so I just put my head back down.  There was a lot of commotion going on, people coming to my cage and then walking away…nothing new for me.   Must be one of the dogs getting adopted.  Here they come and I wonder who the lucky dog is?  They are walking toward me…I know they will pass by my cage…just as they did many times before.  They seem to be looking in my direction…then they stop right by my cage…hey the door is opening… I am being lifted out…what is going on?  Could this be real…are my dreams coming true?  Must be some volunteers to spend time with me.  No, wait, I am actually being carried to their car.  Angie and Keith are taking me into their car and Angie gently puts me onto her lap and tenderly caresses my body with her hands.  She talks to me and tells me that I am safe now and that they are taking me to my foster mom.  Here I go on a new adventure - at my age!  We drove for nearly 3 hours and I slept most of the time but I felt very comfortable and safe with these wonderful volunteers that offered to drive me to my foster mom.  We drove and drove until we stopped at a gas station in Pennsylvania...  

There is a lady coming towards us from another car and she looked very excited.  She took me out of Angie’s arms and held me and petted me and said hello.   She introduced herself to Angie and Keith as Beth, my new foster mom from Save A Yorkie Rescue…she even had a pretty blue shirt on that said Save A Yorkie Rescue on it.  They talked for a while and took pictures and then I was placed in a crate in Beth’s car and off we went again.  What is going on?  We drive for another hour and then stopped again.  I am lifted out of the crate and put down onto some grass and somehow I sense that we have reached our destination.  I am greeted and sniffed all over my little body by all of Beth’s other dogs.   Then I am fed and feel very content …I jump right up onto Beth’s lap and she whispered to me that she loves me and that my best days are ahead of me.  So I just put my head down and smiled inside because I knew this truly was my Independence Day.

I was taken to the vet and he checked me from head to toe, he did blood work and told my foster mom that I had an enlarged heart and fluid in my lungs and that is why I was coughing.  Also, my teeth are in very bad shape and infected.  He gave me some meds to take and wants to see me back soon.  He also said that I am in pretty good shape for my age…how many of you can say that???  Ha, Ha!

I am happy in my foster home and well taken care of.  My foster mom gives me my medicines that make me feel soooo much better.  She even lets me sleep in bed with her so I can snuggle.   I am CheB and I love my new life and my foster mom loves me!!!

CheB's foster mom says he is active, spunky and loving and that he follows her everywhere.  He cries when she has to leave for work.  It would be wonderful if someone who didn't work could adopt him - just for as long as he has left.  He loves people and loves to be held and he is just 6 pounds.   If you are able to help CheB with his medical costs, please sponsor him on our website or send a donation to Save A Yorkie Rescue.   We can really use the help!!!

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult. 

 

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you. 

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
