Beamer Boy is available for adoption but if you would like to help sponsor his expensive surgery, please do.

He is 6 years old and weighs 7 lbs.

His adoption fee is $600.00.

Beamer has been in foster care for about 6 weeks.  During that time he had his femur repaired surgically in January.  He had a follow up appointment and bloodwork two weeks later and all was fine.  At the two week mark he was recovering nicely and was starting to use his leg. Two weeks ago, he had a complete vetting and a good grooming since the surgery required shaving a portion of his rear leg to repair the fracture as well as his front legs to administer IV's during the surgery.  Now he is looking good and feeling great.  In two weeks he will return to the surgeon for x-rays to confirm the bone is completely healed and ready for full on Beamer action!

Fast forward to today and you would never know he was ever injured.  He is a happy, bouncy little man with a large personality.  Beamer is walking very well.  He has not taken pain meds in over a week.  While he is not allowed to run and play like his foster siblings, he finds ways to entertain himself squeaking toys and taking short breaks outside to attend to his business.  He is allowed to walk to the mailbox once or twice a day for exercise and he really enjoys sniffing and walking around when the weather permits.

Beamer is very well behaved.  His potty manners are great. He will come to you when he needs to go outside and just stare at you with those adorable eyes.  If it is an emergency, he will bark. But he gives you the opportunity to understand first.  He is very considerate.

He is very playful and will require an active home without cats.  We have found out on walks (he is in a carrier while I walk his foster siblings) that he DOES NOT like cats.  He almost jumped out of the carrier.  While he gets along well with his foster siblings, he is not very interactive with them.  He would be fine as an only dog.  In fact I think he would prefer it.

Beamer loves food and if you drop anything you better get it quick.  He will swoop in and claim it quickly.  We are working on this as it is unsafe for any dog to eat things that may get dropped.  We play a game called "It's your choice" to help him with his impulse control.  Foster mom will definitely show his new owners how to play and how to work on it with him.  He is smart and is catching on quickly so he should grasp it in no time.

Beamer had a fast and furious introduction to his foster family but made the transition very smoothly.  He never had a bad attitude even after surgery.  When foster mom picked him up everyone in the animal hospital wanted to keep him because he was so loving and freely gave kisses.

Beamer goes grocery shopping every Friday and volunteers with foster mom at the local historic home gift shop.  He is always well behaved.

Beamer is a real gem.  You will be in love from the moment you see him.

Beamer Boy is vacationing in Hopewell,VA with Sharon and her family. He is in very good hands.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
