Who's that?  What's that noise over there?

Let me go and sniff it out.  My nose is my best asset, you see, as it is with most dogs.  My right eye is not what it should be, so I can't see well on that side. My mom finds it very charming when I tilt my head to see her.  Of course she thinks everything I do is charming, but that's how mothers are. Now Vincent, he's my new sibling brother, didn't know how to take me at first and he kept his distance on top of the couch; but now we get along just wonderfully.

The vet and I had a long chat and she thought I was just beautiful.  In a few days I will have my teeth made over and the necessary procedure done.  Today I go to the salon, as all the best ladies do - and I will have a coiffure styled. In the months to come, as it grows in and fluffs out, I will be a vision!

Get ready for me.... start reading about Yorkies and their care.  You will want to know how to keep my teeth nice, what I need to wear when we walk, what the best food is, who my new vet is, what salon we will visit.  Please study up on Yorkies because my friends are going to ask so many questions. I know they want what is best for me, just as you do. So knock their socks off with your knowledge and experience.

I am so very pretty,  a real Yorkie lady
. The best age for so many people - just right, in fact - active but mellow.  Remember, I have to take my time to get to know you, slowly and quietly because I don't see well.  Do you wear glasses, at times perhaps, when you read?  Then you know how it is and that it doesn't stop us from enjoying the love of our familes.

What is that you whisper?  What is a fine Yorkie girl like me doing in a rescue?  I can't tell you all of my secrets but I can tell you this - my previous family loved me but they did not take especially good care of me. They did not brush me or my teeth. I am now badly matted and my teeth are in need of great and expensive care. No one took me to the vet for my procedure so naturally when the time came that I felt the need to meet the males of the neighborhood, I escaped. Thus I find myself - dirty, matted, with a sore mouth and no home. My family did not search for me to bring me home. None of this was my fault but it has caused me great suffering. My friends in rescue will transform me into the lovely, healthy creature I should always have been.  So please excuse their penetrating questioning.  They want to be sure that your home is different from my first.

Have you been looking for me?  I'm here and I'm ready to come home.

Amethyst is vacationing in Mohrsville, PA with Kathy and her family.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
