His adoption fee is $500.00

Albert has had a good week. He is using the bathroom outside when we offer it every two hours. His best day was Thursday, December 27th. He had a dry belly band all day and even had a bowel movement outside after sniffing a bit in the grass. Yay! Albie as we have come to call him.

Albert continues to reveal his cute little personality. He loves to cuddle but also loves to sit in his little bed and observe. He continues to interact with my pack and wags his tail when he sees them come into the room. He really does enjoy their company.

He has a dental scheduled for January 10th. Once this is complete, I believe he is ready for his furever home! What a long way he has come in the 2 1/2 months we have had him!

Kudos to Albert Eli!

Read about Albert's Journey

Albert Eli has had a busy few weeks in rescue.  He has been to and from the vets office because he stopped responding to his first antibiotic then the second one.

Albert arrived in rescue with a very bad bladder infection. He had a urine test was given an antibiotic and started to improve. After completing 12 days of antibiotics the blood in his urine increased. This prompted another visit to the vet, another urinalysis, more bloodwork and a new antibiotic. After one week on the new antibiotic the blood in his urine was still present but he was definitely feeling better. He was eating better and he seemed interested in his foster family and siblings. The infection was clearing but the blood continued. Another call to the vet! Testing scheduled.

Fast forward to today, Thursday, November 15th. Albert went in for testing to see what could be causing the blood. An x/ray was taken and the culprit was found—a very large stone taking up the entire space of his bladder. No wonder he had blood in his urine! It was irritated from a large stone. Within 10 minutes of diagnosis he was in surgery to remove the beast! He tolerated the surgery well and was released home at 4:30 pm the same day. What a long day he has had. But he handled it like a trooper. He came home, drank a bowl full of water, ate all his new bladder care kibble, went potty on the wee wee pad (NO BLOOD) and then went to sleep. His eyes are already brighter and he is wagging his tail happily. I can only imagine how much better he feels. We will keep posting updates as he continues to recover. Thank you for supporting Save A yorkie Rescue and Albert Eli. Without donors like you we could not help dogs like Albert.

Albert is staying with Sharon in Hopewell, VA.

Many thanks to the wonderful people who donated towards Albert's surgery and medical expenses!

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
