We’ve learned alot about Roodee in the weeks he’s been with us.
Despite being extremely hard of hearing, if not deaf, his “spidey senses” go on alert the minute someone is in the kitchen. He is always eager for meal time and loves snacks, good thing beef broth is low cal!! He is so easy going, unless he’s done with his walk. Once he has decided he has gone far enough, he comes to a halt. For such a little guy, he definitely is strong. No amount of prodding, slight tugging will get his paws going, until you are going in the direction HE wants to go in. He is completely house trained and whimpers to let you know it’s time to go outside, if you take too long he’ll start to bark and get a little louder, it’s the only time he’s really been vocal. Not a typical Yorkie in that manner!!! Roodee also will not cross the threshold unless he sees his leash, talk about self control!! We’ve also learned that he LOVES to go for car rides. He perches in his dodge car seat and makes not a peep as he views the world wizzing past him.
He has found his favorite spots in the house to nap his days away, and on occasion he’ll request to sit next to one of us on the couch. He’s very content to just be near. He has had no issues with other dogs or young children. He actually gets his little nub of a tail going quite fast when he sees young children. As for other dogs, he doesn’t seem to care that they’re there. We’ve only seen cats from a distance so I can’t comment on how he’d do with them. When Roodee came into the rescue, we were aware there was a history of ear issues and he does require regular cleaning of his ears. We have also found out that he does have some other health issues and a plan of care is being figured out. He is currently on heart meds for blood pressure, which he takes happily- thinks it’s a treat!
Roodee is a complete joy and so easy. He really is a great companion dog.
Roodee is staying with Laurel in Douglassville, PA.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND: 1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty. 3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable. 4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt. 5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland, etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.
WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE? Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.
Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.
ADOPTION AREA
Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.
Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
