Snikers is available for adoption.

He is 8 years old and weighs 13 pounds.

His adoption fee is $400.00.

Update:

We have now had Snikers for 2 full weeks and with every day he has been adjusting a lot better. He and our other pup have been playing a lot more together and he is hiding less and less. Snikers is definitely begger and will stare at you when you're eating. As soon as he sees you going to the kitchen he follows you in, hoping that he could have a bite of something. His favorite word is "treat." We are still working on simple commands such as sit, stay and come. He is very much a lover and will sit or sleep at your feet.

Week 1:

His previous owner is in the military and was leaving for a deployment and decided to surrender him. He is 8 years old weighing 13lbs and has only lived with one family. The vet said he is very healthy but, it wouldn’t hurt if he lost a few pounds. He loves to go for long walks on a leash and is great about getting his harness on him. When he sees the harness he knows it’s time to go outside and he gets uber excited! At first he was unsure about our other yorkie because she likes to play so he just sniffed her a lot, but now they are starting to play tug a war with each other. He likes to play but, gets bored after a few minutes and will jump on the couch to sit next to you or by your feet, or underneath something (coffee table, chair, bed) to take a quick snooze. As soon as he hears you stand up he runs to you and asks “so where are we going?” He is a cuddler and loves giving kisses. Snikers will allow you to pick him up, he will even let you cradle him like a baby because he loves his belly rubs. He picks and chooses when to listen when you call his name as well as when to respond to the “sit” and “come” commands. He struggles with getting his teeth brushed but every day he gets a little more accustomed to it.

Snikers is used to being an only dog so sharing of toys is something he’s learning. He is also very protective of his bully stick. We are trying to work through this and so far, he has made good progress. We have found him to be a “refuge rummager” and will go into the trash in the bathroom to see what treasures he can find. So guard your trash cans, or simply keep the doors closed.  I also believe, he may have been a basketball player in his previous life. Although, his weight has him struggling to get on the couch it does not stop him from jumping out of our 2 foot pen! Quite the athlete!

Snikers is staying with Tryna in Catonsville, MD.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
