Iris is available for adoption..

She is 7 months old and weighs 3.5 lbs, she will probably be a tiny girl.

Her adoption fee is $750.00.

UPDATE:
Iris had another visit with the Opthamologist, her eyes look healthy and her right eye is improving with medication, therefore she will need ointment morning and evening everyday in that eye.  The left eye is still not making tears, there are other combinations and new medications still to try but for now she will need medication applied to her eye 5 times a day and then extra lubrication in between, so this would be every 2-3 waking hours.  Iris is available for adoption to someone who can currently provide this kind of care for her eyes.  This may change in the future but not for a few months until we can find the right medication to make her produce her own tears.  If this does not work then she will still need ointment applied every 2-3 hours during the day to keep her left eye healthy.  She goes back to the doctor in 2 weeks to see if this new combination is working.

Iris is a very friendly and curious little girl who doesn't sit still for a minute!  She is a puppy...with all the excitement and mischeviousness that goes with a puppy's exploration of her brave new world.  Iris will be available for adoption in about a month. She has dry eyes and will need the next four weeks to see if medication can stimulate her tear production.

Iris had her first grooming done and did very well.  She had her spay along with 7 baby teeth extracted so that her brand new permanent teeth will come in straight and sound.

Iris has made herself at home in the last 2 1/2 weeks. She loves her toys and is a sweet but a mischievous little puppy. She can go up wooden stairs but doesn't try going down (yet)! She currently gets eye lubrication every two hours, we are hoping this changes and will know in a week or so. She loves playing with her 7 pound Foster sister Mia but is scared of larger dogs. She has never been around cats.  I think families with children  13 and up would be best as Iris is always running around underfoot!

She arrived in rescue on St. Patty's Day so we think she is a very lucky little girl!!!  Put in your application today. Iris will  be available for adoption soon.

She is vacationing in South Salem, NY, with Robyn and her family.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
