Jessi is available for adoption.

He is 5 years old and weighs 4 lbs.

His adoption fee is $300.00.

On August 15th, 2015 Jessi was attacked by the dog he lived with his entire life. As a result he lost his right eye and has a torn retina in his left eye so he is completely blind. His owners called Save A Yorkie Rescue to step in.

Although Jessi can’t see, his quality of life has not been damaged at all. He is a happy, sweet, easy little companion who wants nothing more than to be touched and loved. He is a Velcro dog who always likes to be by your side….he will scratch at your hand and nudge at you until you pet him. Jessi is very vocal – if he wants something he will growl or bark. This isn’t out of aggression – it is to communicate with his human. If you feel a scratch in the middle of the night or hear a growl you know Jessi has to go potty or is thirsty. It is important that Jessi sleep in bed with his new family so that you know if he needs you.

He is newly blind so he is still adjusting when navigating through the house but he does great as long as everything stays in its place. Jessi loves running in the back yard (somehow he knows where the fence is and has never bumped into it once). He also loves going on walks! Yes he goes on walks just like a dog who has full vision. He walks at least one mile per day (weather permitting) (copy and paste this link into your browser or try to click on the links to see a video of Jessi on a routine walk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDde557UWMM and in the backyard playing and running https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBN6JB3ldos ).

He also loves meal time. Jessi rides really well in the car. Jessi’s foster mom has put little cat bells on his yorkie foster brothers collars. It has helped Jessi tremendously to hear where they are and he follows them through the house and out in the backyard.

What Jessi needs in his new home –

  1. Someone who is home for the most part to help him navigate his home and give him lots of affection and snuggle time.

  2. Another small dog so that he has someone to help guide him on walks and to snuggle with in bed. (Jessi loves to be near the other dogs in his foster home)

  3. A fenced in back yard so that he can run and smell and play

  4. A home that can be modified – if you have steps are you willing to put gates up? He could easily fall down steps. Do you have a clear back yard free of any obstacles? If not, are you willing to remove these obstacles for him?

  5. An open spot in your bed at night so that you can help him if he needs a drink or to go outside to potty

If you think your home is the right fit for Jessi please put your application in right away!

Jessi is vacationing with Carol, Tim and their gang in Burlington, NJ.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
