Sweet William is available for adoption.

Sweet William is about 1.3 pounds and about 6 years old.

Sweet William's adoption donation is $350.

He was found matted, dirty, and scared wandering sadly in a small town in Virginia.  After a few days someone picked him up and took him to the local shelter.  Once there, they shaved him down to remove all the mats (wish they hadn't been so efficient with the clippers) and gave him a bath.  Don't worry, his hair will grow back quickly!  Just you wait and see - in a few weeks he will sprout such pretty golden hair.

Sweet William lives up to his name, he loves people and attention.  He just follows them around and wants to be carried, and they are happy to do just that!  He does have an abnormality with his lower jaw which requires that he be fed good quality canned food with a bit of warm water. He has thrived on his 'yogurt'. He prefers if you sit with him while he dines.  He has gained enough so that he can be neutered this week.

How about it - are you looking for a little lover who wants to be your best bud? He can go everywhere, he is so small.

He truly is a sweetheart who seems to handle whatever challenges that life has thrown at him. He's neither timid nor helpless and navigates his way around the house, including stairs, with confidence.

He can keep up with his much larger Yorkie brothers and is not shy about barking when he crosses paths with the cat. He's excited to be with you and especially loves a warm lap to curl up in.

He also has no problem curling up in his crate where he spends his nights.  He eats voraciously when given his favorite entree. Right now he's eating small amounts of a high protein food as often as he's willing throughout the day (3-4 times). He also manages to scarf down broken pieces of soft treats.  He's a glass half full kind of guy who just wants the security of knowing he has a loving, forever home.

Update-Sweet William continues to be true to his name…a truly sweet little boy. His foster mom says he is doing well and is “filling out”.

Will is anxious to go for walks and when the door opens he races to start exploring the neighborhood. He’s acquired  a few human admirers on these walks (“Aww, he’s so cute!”) and is not intimidated by their pets. Back home he continues to be very affectionate and just wants to be near his family. He waits patiently for the next opportunity to snuggle. Put in your application today so that YOU can be Williams snuggle buddy!

Sweet William is vacationing in Nutley, NJ with Allyson and her family.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
