Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! Feel that sun on your face. It's time for the beach and Gidget just arrived from Rehoboth Beach to show off her gorgeous figure.

She is not a wild thing, she has better manners than some dogs, and she is just getting used to the new territory - GRASS!!!

Gidget originally came from a breeder who did not get her out to meet other dogs and she never learned to play. No one ever taught her to walk nicely on a leash and go for long hikes in the woods. So she has a lot to learn and we are working on that with her.

She loves to be quiet with you and watch TV in the evening but she is very vivacious.

To our surprise, Gidget walked about a 1/2 mile tonight with no problem.

Her mama didn't have to tug on the leash or anything except when Gidget would stop
to explore or roll in something in the grass. She was enjoying herself
smelling all the new stuff in the grass and the tracks from the deer
that had passed in front of tem shortly before they got to the path.

Considering that 3 days ago she didn't even know how to walk on grass or
a leash this is fantastic. She also was playing with Aunt Rita's Yorkies, Duffer
in the house today and was barking at the boys while they were playing
with a tug toy. She is starting to blossom into an awesome little
dog.

She sleeps all night in a crate without a peep or any accidents in
her crate. She is eating homemade food and gained a few ounces already.

She needs to strengthen her legs some more but should be running with the rest of them soon.

She is not shy about eating in front of us as stated by her owner.

She loves playing in the yard and exploring EVERYTHING and especially loves the wind in her face.

She has never felt that before until the other night.

It was nice watching her lift her nose up in the air and take in all the smells
she has never smelled before (believe me in Lancaster County we have
SMELLS) and just enjoying life in a way she never has before. Surfing will be next!

We need a real dog lover here who wants one little girl. She has a lot to learn but if you won't hold that against her, she won't tell on you when you sneak that ice cream at night.

She is vacationing with Mary Ellen in Lancaster, PA.  She is a beautiful girl - gorgeous enough to be chosen to have puppies. But all that is over for Gidget - it's HER time to SHINE!  GO Gidget!

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
