Who is Hot Stuff?

This tiny, young, Yorkie /Chihuahua (Chorkie) mix has an enormous heart and a wonderful intelligence. His heart is ruled by his intelligence.

It will take him a short time to warm up and trust you but when that happens - Yahoo! He will shower you with puppy kisses and gratitude.

Hot Stuff is doing very well with his potty training and will go to the door when he wants to go out.

His foster mom is an important person in his life, so he follows her everywhere. He is a real "Love Bug" .  He snuggles on her chest when they sit on the couch and is ready for bed when they are.

This little wonder dog runs like the wind in a big back yard (he is extremely fast) (he absolutely MUST have a fenced yard in his new home - no apartments please!  He plays well with other dogs. He loves long walks every day and he rides well in the car. His foster mom says that whomever adopts Hot Stuff is going to have a real gem for their companion; he is a "Diamond in the Ruff Ruff"!

Hot Stuff was found during a heat wave, thus his name.  He is fostering in Voorhees, NJ with Kathy. Please put in your application and then call and talk Kathy to talk about Hot Stuff.

Below is a little story about him coming into rescue..

"Err-r-r.." he ouffed.. rather small and without much enthusiasm. It was the best he could muster - things were happening so fast he was scared and didn't know who was going to eat him alive.  Being only 5 pounds he didn't have much muscle to back up his tiny protest.

The day was so hot, the air like liquid mud - it was hard just trying to catch his breath. Hands picked him up, hands held him while they checked him over. Hands put him in a cage and that's all he knew. Hands, human hands - friend or foe, he wasn't sure.

He rode in the car, which was at least cooler than the stink of the shelter air with its suggestion of death and disease. While he didn't know the people who were there with him, they did speak low and kindly... he just watched and hoped.

More hands, more moving... finally the door opened and there it was. Grass - lots of it. Green and beckoning - off like a spark, he was moving on his own, racing across the green lawn. He looked over his shoulder and laughed at them. The people watched as he sprinted in one direction, then circled around and kept running. Did they think he'd come back to be put in that cage? No sir-e-e-e.. He was out and he was heading as far from that cage as he could get.

The people let the little dog run until he settled, panting under a tree. Hands again picked him up and gently guided him into the crate where cool water waited. He laid his head on the blanket and the gentle bumping of the car rocked him to sleep. Hands again, picking him out of the crate, and voices asking questions woke him up late in the evening. The crate disappeared - he let out a sigh of relief. He never wanted to go back into it.

A gentle lady held him against her chest and rocked him while she made sounds that made his eyes go closed and he fell asleep on her shoulder. She smiled and said, "You came to me right in the middle of the hottest day of the year. Ok, Hot Stuff, you are home. Go to sleep. And dream of cool water. and cool hands."

Hot Stuff is very young, has a natural tail, is neutered. He slept deeply on his foster mom's shoulder his first night in rescue. He is a young boy, very small, - he's a PUPPY! Just what people are looking for - a bright, active, tiny boy.

We are looking for a home with dog experience who will help to give him the training, socialization and discipline that he needs to grow into a well mannered dog. No children please - he is too small. A fenced yard would make him very happy but walks are important too.

He is vacationing in Voorhees, NJ  Please put in your application as soon as possible. He won't be in rescue long. He's all ready to come home.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
