Oscar Madison joins us all the way from Brooklyn, New York and is a complete mood booster. He has the sweetest disposition. Oscar wants human attention constantly. Watch where you walk – he will be close to your side, looking up to you for love. If he had his way (and so far he has) he will stick to you like glue. As I type, he is resting beneath my chair. But please do not leave him for too long; this will not make our little guy happy.

Because Oscar came from the city, he is fun to watch as he acclimates to the outdoors. He barks at birds, squirrels, and other animals, but cars do not faze him. Grass is fun but what’s it for? He is wee pad trained and prefers that as opposed to going outside. Even with frequent hourly trips outside, he will insist on coming indoors to use his wee pad. We continue to work on this but it does have its advantages in bad weather!

Oscar loves to have his belly rubbed. For that matter, just go ahead and rub all over! There will be plenty of kisses for you too. If you sit, he will sit. On you! Next to you. For as long as you sit! He has a favorite toy that giggles when you squeeze it. He can fetch, sit, lay, stay (sorta), and give you his paw. He was mostly fed table scraps, so meal time needs some work as he should be fed a healthy diet. I have been told that he will be sick if he eats chicken, so we avoid that. We are working on some allergy issues and need to eliminate food as a possibility – so be strong and stick to a good, quality, gluten-free, dry dog food, with some moist mixed in!

Do you have a small space available in your bed? He likes to snuggle and does not prefer his bed. He also does not like a crate. He drives great in the car, but really wants to be on your lap. Give this guy a worn sock and he is in heaven! Overall, he is more of a snuggle buddy than an active guy.

Oscar is vacationing with a new member of the SAY Rescue Family, Flea Ross, in Pittman, NJ, so put in your application now!

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
