Buttons is a friendly little girl that just arrived in rescue because her owner has passed away and she had requested Buttons be placed with a Rescue.

She seems very timid and is following her foster dad every where he goes.

Buttons is getting along well with her foster sibling and in time she will be a happy girl again.

Buttons likes to go for walks and she slept comfortably in her bed on the floor in her foster family's bedroom.  Though her time in the car was short Buttons seems to travel well.

Buttons is adjusting well.   She came to us afraid after being in a kennel for the last two weeks while her owner was in hospice.  She is becoming comfortable in her new environment relatively quickly.

Buttons is making tremendous progress in re-becoming the sweetest happiest doggie

that we believe she previously was.

Buttons face has changed dramatically when you reach out to her. She gives a lick on

the hand versus eyes of fear. She has given a few kisses here and there and more often too. She is always around one of her foster parents in the evening and the dad during the day (work at home dad). Buttons comes up to you and stands up on her hind

legs and puts her paws on your legs and looks at you with longing eyes. She likes to be

brushed and to be scratched behind the ears and the back.

She is so well house trained we really did not have an accident with her. We walk her every two to three hours, six times a day. Be prepared to walk her when you get up in the morning she goes fast.

Buttons is in great health. She eats well, or likes to eat, so if you have another dog you

have to keep their feeding area segregated. We advise pulling the food up after dinner;

she will eat her meal pretty quick so it is more in securing the brother or sister dogs food

away.

Buttons would love to have a lot of chew sticks, bully sticks, and greenies. Chewig to a dog is mind engaging and Buttons needs something to keep her mind off of missing her mom.  She has chewed some stuffed and

non-stuffed toys pretty well. She loves to play tug of war with these toys and are great

for her but they need to be put away when done playing. (Her owner had listed hard

rubber toys only on a form she had filled out for the day care center she was put in while

the owner was ill.) She doesn’t seem to like the cold or the snow.

She is playing better both with our dog and with us. Yesterday evening we played with

the stuffless raccoon (minus foot) and Buttons was scampering around the first floor

with it. Buttons is showing increased positive energy! The dogs play with tails

wagging pawing at each other. (Neither have much alpha character so they are so cute

together. An ah-ah-ah stops them if a little growling is noticed with no tails a waggin’.)

Right now they are both in the living room lying in the light coming through the window

less than a foot apart, both sleeping.

She is responding to sit and come here commands quite well.  In her records the first vet noted she is an intelligent dog. She

certainly has showed that. And she just came up to me in the chair, put her paws on me

asking to be picked up. She will make someone a true companion.

She is vacationing in Newark, DE, with Lou and Ursula and their furbaby.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
