Pippa is available for adoption.

She is 10 years old and weighs 7 lbs.

Her adoption fee is $ 400.00.

No bigger than a minute, Pippa is a sweet, shy girl.   She is about 5-6 lbs. and the vet's best guess is that she is about 10 years old. Although a little shy, she warms up quickly and once she knows and trusts you, she loves nothing more than to curl up in your laps and snooze.

She recently had surgery to remove three mammary tumors and she was also spayed at that time.   When the vet called me after surgery, she began the conversation with the words “She is small but mighty” and proceeded to tell me that Pippa did well and was on the road to recovery.  It has been a little over 2 weeks since her surgery and today Pippa’s staples were removed.  With a jagged scar from stem to stern, Pippa is recovering well and is resting comfortably in my lap.

She is a bit of a diva and refuses to sleep anywhere other than someone's lap or in our bed. She is a good sleeper though. She goes to bed with us around 9PM and often sleeps until 8AM. Upon waking, Pippa immediately locates her pee pad and does her business. (On occasion, she will relieve herself during the night by jumping out of bed and using the pee pads).  She has occasional accidents in the house, usually if I stop somewhere between our bedroom and the downstairs pee-pad, she will have an accident on the rug.  I think this is because Pippa doesn’t like to be too far from her person.  So, my route now is straight to the pee-pad and that has solved the problem!

She has a healthy appetite but we have found that a bland diet works best for her. So, she usually eats chicken or scrambled eggs and rice.

She is not afraid of thunder, the vacuum or other loud noises although the sound of a squeaky toy will wake her from a sound sleep.  She is very calm and loving but has a bit of toy aggression.  If one of my boys is playing with a squeaky toy, Pippa sits at high alert until the other dog tires of the toy and then she steals it.

She walks well on a leash but does not like taking long walks. When we take walks, I end up carrying Pippa after walking about 1/2 block from our house.

She is good with children and other dogs, and I have heard that she is good with cats as well but I have not experienced that.

All in all, she is a great dog and just wants to be with her person!

Pippa is staying with Maryann in Ambler, PA.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
