It was raining...again. It seemed to the dirty little dog that it was always raining in Baltimore. He was hungry - the only thing he had had to eat in the past three days were some blue crab shells that a fisherman left stinking on the dock and the remains of an ice cream cone that a child had dropped - an unexpected treasure!

Now he was searching the crowd for a face - for someone he knew. But everyone hurried by, busy with their own cares, missing the little golden dog who hid in the shadows.

The smell of meat - a hamburger! The delicious scent made his mouth water as the memories of such delights ran through his mind.

A dark haired lady bent down, extending her hand slowly she coaxed, "Here, little guy, come here and have a little bite. You're hungry, and cold, you need a good meal. Come little guy. Let me help you find a place to be."  The soothing sound of her voice gave him confidence. He took a step forward. He wanted so much to trust her, to have someone care for him again. Everything about her invited him to trust her. So he did.

While he ate, she explained in simple silly phrases, how nice life would be now. No more hunger, starving and afraid. No more dodging and sleeping on wet grass. And the worst for him - no more being alone. Herbie had a friend. He closed his eyes, gave a small gulp and nestled in her elbow.

She smiled as she carried the little dog - no bigger than a new born baby. He had taken the first step, the big step, he trusted her to take care of him and she would never let him down.

Now it's your turn - to give Herbie his forever home. He's a dear little dog, free of fleas and matts. He is clean, easy to care for and so willing to come home.

Despite all that he has been through, he is very sweet and affectionate and loves everyone he meets. He was even an angel for the nice groomer who removed all of his mats. He also gets along well with other dogs and ignores the cat in his foster home.  He loves nothing more than to sit in laps and cuddle with his people. He also loves to sleep in a soft dog bed.

Do you have room in your heart for a chill, sweet, cuddly guy? If so, please email laura@daveid.net for more information. Or call 443-570-2312. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, current on flea/tick/heartworm, and weighs about 9 pounds. He is in  Baltimore, MD

Herbie is just what ypu were looking for - call now. Adopted to William Douglas of Belair, MD  he is the 61 year old father who moved in with his daughter. 7/26/12
