Pinky

On May 1 we picked Pinky up from the airport in Millville, NJ. I want to once again thank Andy from Pilots N Paws for flying Pinky up from Va. I also want to thank Susannah and Sara for picking her up from the shelter, taking care of her and texting me everyday until her arrival. I have been with SAY for 9 years doing phone interviews and a few home visits. This has been my first time fostering and I have to say I have come away with a new admiration for all our foster families. During my phone interviews I always encourage people to consider fostering and that the foster parents are what keeps this rescue going. If we had no foster families we could not rescue all the dogs that need our help. During the 4 weeks that we have had Pinky I’ve learned that fostering is not only the hardest job in the rescue but also the most rewarding. The paperwork, pictures, bios, talking with and texting with potential adopters, making vet and grooming appointments, house training, etc are just a few of the things that need to be done to find potential adopters and to care for the dog. But, the best part of fostering is watching the dog thrive, learning to adjust, to trust and to love. Ruth and I knew from day one when Pinky came into are home that it was probably going to be impossible for us to let her go. On May 24 we adopted our beautiful, smart and funny little Pinky. Some people call it failing fostering but as I said to Kathy Moore many years ago I call it knowing where the dog belongs. In 4 weeks I’ve seen Pinky grow into a secure, confident and happy little girl. Everyday she does something new that surprises us and makes us laugh. In the 3.5 weeks that Pinky was on our website I received 3 calls, one about her cost and two about her health. I thought it was very sad that no one asked what is she like, what does she need, what makes her happy. Ruth and I have been truly blessed with our new little girl. I would like to also thank my mentor, Bonnie for helping me to become a foster and answering all of my many questions, Sharon for her advice and fostering video, Shona for all the supplies and Kathy and Tom Moore. I would not be involved with SAY if it weren’t for Kathy and Tom. We adopted our first rescue and little miracle Darcy from them and they encouraged me to volunteer. Kathy trained me to do phone interviews and taught me a lot about rescuing. It takes a team and SAY is a great team to be on. Congratulations Pinky!!!

Prince of Lancaster

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! The Prince of Lancaster has chosen his forever family and henceforth shall be known as Prince. We couldn't have asked for a better meet and greet day than November 14. It was a crisp and sunny day that made being outdoors a pleasure. Mike, Liliane and Noah arrived promptly at 10 AM to meet Prince. They had driven to the Fairfax area from Pennsylvania the night before. As with almost anyone, Prince walked up to them to get pats and scratches but that wasn't good enough, he knew these folks were friends forever and rolled over on the cold cement driveway to get a tummy rub. We followed the meeting with a walk around the neighborhood with Mike, Noah and Prince taking the lead. Prince did great. There were a couple of looks over his shoulder at Liliane and I who were chatting and strolling more leisurely but Prince easily accepted Mike and Noah to walk him. Then we went back to the house where Liliane got out some treats and Noah offered them to Prince. Of course Prince got excited about that and jumped into to Noah's lap! Prince, Mike and Noah spent some time in our fenced backyard so they could observe Prince off leash. Liliane and I started going over the items in Prince's SAYR Tote, the notes compiled about Prince and the adoption agreement. Mike joined us and we took care of paperwork. Then it was time to gather everything together and watch Prince stroll down the driveway with Mike, Liliane and Noah. We waived goodbye and could hear Prince barking from the crate. Seems that he kept barking so Liliane held him in her lap for the several hour trip back to Pennsylvania. I think everyone would agree holding a 16 pound wiggly dog for several hours is the trait of a very good doggie Mom! From all reports, Prince has settled in nicely, met the neighbors and neighborhood dogs and had a wonderful 30 minute walk on new terrain full of new scents to explore and dream about. It's foreseen there will be many happy years ahead. Congratulations to Mike, Liliane and Noah and Prince!!!

Precious Stone

From the moment this tiny bundle of fur was placed in my arms, I knew in my heart I would love him forever. However, I wanted to be fully committed to the fostering experience. I tried my best to steer my heart from his total adorableness. He immediately bonded with Jim. He became his little buddy but my two girls really did not like him. Especially his friendliness (humping) as Stone was not yet neutered but once they put him in his place they loved him too. Stone has really helped Maisy overcome some of her fears of people and other dogs. He loves everyone he meets ! He loves playing with Maisy in our big yard and going on walks. Seeing him fitting in here so perfectly I knew Stone was here to stay. So I am a complete and utter foster failure and very proud of it! We gave him a new name to go with his new family . Teddy suits him as he is as sweet and cuddly as a teddy bear. We are over the moon in love with him and we can not thank Save A Yorkie Rescue enough for not only giving us one but two sweet pups. We adopted Maisy in December.

Pip

Pip is very happy with his new moms and brother. He seems to have had an easy adjustment, and is enjoying his new home. I feel so good that pip has found his forever home and will have a wonderful life💕 Congratulations Pip!!!

Pinot Grigio

After many months of loving cuddles, Pinot Grigio is off to his forever home. Debbie, Nick, and Trixie made the trip from Sewickley, PA to meet Pinot. We met outside and Pinot made himself at home going right into their car. Trixie is a sweet, loving 9 year old that acts like a young pup. Her and Pinot hit it off immediately. Debbie and Nick stayed and had a bit of lunch where we all got to know each other. Debbie had pictures of her dogs from the past 30 years. Lots of Yorkies that lived upwards of 17-18 years. Then it was time to get down to the adoption, contracts signed, meds reviewed and final hugs and kisses. Lots of tears from foster Mom Cathy but Pinot walked out and jumped in their car. Debbie sent this picture a couple minutes after they left! Pinot will be one that will always have a piece of my heart. Congratulations Pinot Grigio!!!
