Skylar Hooray for Skylar now Scarlett! She has a loving forever family. Lindsey, Harley, their daughter Katelyn and "Chippin" (SAYR Rescue 2020) drove in the rain to Fairfax to meet Miss Skylar. Skylar of course had to sit in everyone's lap. Lindsey first with kisses, then Katelyn and finally Harley where she relaxed and laid down. Chippin and Skylar did the obligatory sniffs without any issue. The humans talked about Skylar's traits, meal and medicine routine as Skylar and Chippin mingled. Along with Foster Mom, everyone took a walk together. Skylar hesitated at the door but once she knew Foster Mom was coming she trotted right along. Upon return to the house, the humans reviewed and signed paperwork and then it was time to pack all Skylar's possessions and head for the car. Out the door everyone went with Chippin in Lindsey's arms, Skylar in Harley's arms and Katelyn proudly carrying Skylar's possessions. While pictures were taken, Skylar was relaxed in Harley' arms. Foster Mom couldn't follow to the car as she probably would have had tears of joy for sweet Skylar's adoption and tears of sadness at losing the best cuddler ever! It's reported that Skylar relaxed and slept in Katelyn's lap on the drive home while Chippin commandeered Skylar's bed in the seat beside. It's for sure Skylar knows when she's loved and Chippin is already sharing his people and being a good brother. From a shelter where she might have been euthanized due to the size of her tumor (one pound), to two interim foster homes while in route to Foster Mom in Virginia, Skylar has benefitted from SAYR's commitment to rescue and care for her. SAYR covered her veterinary costs of tumor removal and dental care in excess of $6,000. Now Skylar begins her life anew in her forever home as "Scarlett". Thank you Lindsey and family for welcoming this special needs Yorkie Sweetheart into your hearts. Congratulations Skylar!!!.
Sir Walter Raleigh It started in Albany, New York. He flew to Monmouth Airport in Wall, New Jersey. He came scared and afraid. I just hugged him to make him feel safe and that is where his adventure began. We have had our ups and downs. The ups are many, the downs are only one....potty training. Belly bands became our friend. He learned to trust me very quickly. He is just a snuggle bug. He loves the car, so he has been shopping, the boardwalk, the beach and outdoor dining. He was great at all of them. His new chapter is with his new parents, Alice and Dave. They came once and he was still afraid. They weren't sure what to do. After being with me a little longer he became a more confident dog. Today he saw them for the second time. It was so great to see his progress. Alice just wanted to hold him. I think she has a new snuggle buddy. After she snuggled with him, daddy, Dave got his chance. Now it was time to meet his siblings, Franklin and Pickles. We were nervous because Pickles is blind, but it went great!!! Franklin and Sir Walter (now Yogi) just laid in the grass next to each other. I'm sure he will love his new family since they were so kind and patient with him. I love you, Yogi!!! Have the best life ever!!! Congratulations Sir Walter Raleigh!!!
Sandie The O'Dunne family grew by four feet on the 24th of September at 11:37am. Sadie...aka Sandie, already loves her new mommy and daddy and as you can see, they love her too. Thank you, Save a Yorkie Rescue, for helping make another happy adoption possible!! Congratulations Sandie!!!
Summer Well I have done it again! My heart could just not let this little girl go. When I saw the email about Summer I did not hesitate to call Sharon and agreed to foster her. I kept telling myself do not get attached because two dogs are enough. Given that I was caretaker for my 91 year old mom and Misty and Indy were enough to keep me very busy so I told myself. Summer came to me from NYC. While I knew she was tiny I was shocked to see just how tiny she was when I scooped her up from the great volunteer who brought her down to me. She had a very large mass on her abdomen which seemed to be as large as her. Since I knew that there was a serious need to get her to my vet I texted her and made arrangements for Summer to be seen as soon as possible. Not knowing what this mass was I was praying that it was not cancer. Dr Daria from Philadelphia Animal Hospital examined her and after reviewing all of the documentation that was sent to me she determined that while we still were not sure what this mass was she needed to be seen by a specialist. There was black drainage coming out of this mass constantly and I had to finally end up using face masks to put around her belly along with a boy band so as to not get this junk everywhere. She had lost almost a pound since being surrendered and she would not eat for me. I resorted to feeding her pureed baby food through a syringe which finally worked. We went to Blue Pearl in Levittown and saw Dr Deal because Dr Popovich was going on vacation. We pushed the fact that this was an emergency and needed attention as soon as possible. Arrangements were made for Dr Deal to see Summer who Dr Popovich said was just as good as she was. They came out and took Summer in for her appointment. A little while later the doctor called me and said they had done an ultrasound and it was determined that the large mass was a hernia with other complications surrounding her bowel. An estimate was given to Sharon and approval was given to move forward with surgery that day. I have to tell you that this little girl is such a trooper! She has been through hell and back and is the sweetest little thing. The hernia was removed and a portion of her bowel as well as her spleen since there were adhesions on it. She spent three days in the ICU. She did not want to eat and her blood sugar was very low so they had to keep her on glucose. It was finally determined that she may eat if she was sent home so they released her to me. Fast forward: Buttercup is a thriving little girl with tons of energy. She started eating and playing with the girls. She loves to fetch and stands her ground when the others try to take her toy...Congratulations Summer!!!
Snikers Snikers was our first foster and after 2 weeks with him, we couldn't fathom the idea of parting from him. We have been wanting to adopt for about a year now and decided to become foster parents as we waited for our "perfect" pup. He and our other yorkie Mila, have really started to bond over many rounds of tug of war. He gets sweeter with every day and as he gets to know us and vice versa. Congratulations Snikers!!!
