Dasher It has been 5 months since we first met Dasher/Toby. He has been a joy and a challenge. He is full of energy and so much fun to watch on our walks. He does not walk, he trots, you are certain to get a workout keeping up. He has his usual stops along the way, greeting and getting attention from his favorite neighbors. His surgery went well and the recovery too. The incisions are barely noticeable. If only his hair would catch up now. We have a grooming appointment on Saturday to get a summer cut that should help. Some of the biggest challenges were the worry over the hernia and the recovery, the set-back in poddy training after the surgery and some temper tantrums. We are happy to report, we are back to being almost 100% on the housetraining, although the rainy, windy days can be a little more difficult, he still does not like the rain. We have had temperament challenges with Dasher too. I believe some of them may have come from his previous environment and a loss of patience with him for one reason or another, he had so many changes in where his home was and a loss of security. He was very particular about when and where he was touched. He was sometimes food and toy aggressive. He would growl & snap for no reason at all. There were times we wondered if he would ever settle in and feel safe & secure and at other times he seemed right at home. He slowly warmed up to his foster brother, Teddie. They would play tug with a toy or chase each other. They would nap near each other and eventually on the same bed. We have had success in so many things. While Dasher still has been a little work in progress, he has been a blessing for Teddie who was so lost after losing his buddy last July. His anxiety level was through the roof, and he could not sleep most nights, he would pace and roam the house as if he were looking for her. Dasher has resolved these things for Teddie. They share food and toys (most of the time) lol. They sleep together and play together. Teddieâs anxiety is gone. They even zoomie together when one of us comes in after being gone for a bit. He has become very comfortable in his environment. Dasher loves to explore in the yard and will even walk/run through grass, leaves & even puddles. He loves to give my husband kisses (must be the beard?) for no reason, I get them too. He growls a lot less often and it is now more of a grumble, the snappiness on occasion is half hearted and more of a little head jerk. He does not like you to touch him when he is sleeping and 9pm is his bedtime. He lets us know exactly when that is, I swear he can read the clock. So, of this and so much more, he has become our fur baby, part of our hearts, we cannot let him go and must make him our first foster fail.
Dazzle I am so happy and thankful to SAYR for giving me the opportunity to Foster a sweet little pup named Dazzle! As soon as I met her, I admit that I fell in love! She was a bit nervous at first, but within a few minutes, snuggled right up to me, and to be honest, she has not left my side since then! And her introduction to my little buddy, Boâ¦.my nine year old Yorkieâ¦.was just as smooth! There was certainly a lot of sniffing goinâ on, but the two of them hit it off and I am thrilled that Bo now has a new âbest friendâ! We still have work to do, as Dazzle needs her dental work done in a few weeks, and weâre checking her for allergies, but caring for this little sweetie, and our future of sharing cuddles and kisses and adventures with her and Bo just fills me with joy! I have now joined the ranks of Yorkie Moms who are âFoster-Failsââ¦.and so very thankful to SAYR for letting me into that very special club!! Congratulations Dazzle!!!
Diamond in the Ruff Diamond is feeling well and loved. She is so happy and playful. Squeaky toys are the very best. She loves to have the human hide the squeaky toy under her blanket and she pounces on it. Diamond sleeps all night and has potty training down pat. All the problems with the bladder stones and having to pee frequently are resolved. It did take a few weeks to retrain her bladder to hold enough to make it to the yard to relieve herself. Diamond has become very protective of her property. There are several families of Canadian Geese that visit several times a day to eat grass and nap in the shade. Diamond has taken over the job of making sure the geese move on and donât leave those messy deposits on the front lawn and sidewalk. She will get to work as soon as I tell her âThe birds are here!!â Today Diamond decided the robins werenât allowed to land on the roof. Sheldon hasnât figured out what all the fuss is about. This little girl is so loving and sweet, Sheldon and I have become attached and just love having Diamond as a member of our pack. Congratulations Diamond in the Ruff!!!
Dickins Drooper & Dickens were adopted today. Jackie McGill came down from New Jersey to meet the boys and of course feel in love ð Jackie is a single retired teacher with lots of love to give. She loved the idea of two dogs so a bonded pair seemed like a no brainer. She was also looking for older dogs, so these two 10 year olds were the perfect fit. Drooper & Dickens are best friends, super sweet and cute as can be. They love to snuggle together in their bed, groom each other and run around in the yard. Their owner had to surrender them because he was going into a nursing facility but I know he would be pleased with their forever home. While Sara and I had the boys, they had several dental extractions, they each lost 1.5# and we were able to clear up Drooperâs skin issues. They are now healthy, happy and ready to live their best life! Jackie couldnât be more excited to adopt them and was quick to jump in her car and come down when their original adoption fell through. I know she will give them an amazing home and they will all be very happy together! Congratulations Dickins!!!
